DTF Transfer Application Guide
DTF Transfer Application Guide – Profit DTF
Applying your Profit DTF transfers correctly is essential for strong adhesion, vibrant color, and long-lasting durability. Follow this step-by-step guide for consistent, professional results.
Step 1 – Prepare the Garment
Pre-press the garment for 3–5 seconds before applying your transfer. This removes moisture, smooths wrinkles, and creates a flat surface for better adhesion.
Ensure the fabric is clean, dry, and free from dust or lint before positioning your design.
Step 2 – Position the Transfer
Place your DTF transfer exactly where you want it on the garment. Take time to align it properly, especially for logos, text, or centered designs.
Avoid moving the transfer once placed to maintain accurate positioning.
Step 3 – Heat Press Settings (Heat Guide)
Set your heat press to 275°F (135°C) with medium to high pressure.
Apply even pressure across the entire design to ensure full and consistent bonding.
If your press has uneven heat zones, rotate or reposition the garment slightly between presses for best results.
Heat Press Settings Guide (By Fabric Type)
| Fabric Type | Temperature | Pressure | Time | Peel Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100% Cotton | 300–320°F (149–160°C) | Medium (40–50 PSI) | 10–15 sec | Hot Peel |
| Polyester | 270–290°F (132–143°C) | Light–Medium (30–40 PSI) | 10–12 sec | Hot Peel |
| Cotton / Poly Blend | 300–315°F (149–157°C) | Medium (40–50 PSI) | 12–15 sec | Hot Peel |
| Tri-Blend | 285–305°F (140–152°C) | Medium (40–45 PSI) | 12–14 sec | Hot Peel |
| Performance / Athletic | 270–285°F (132–140°C) | Light (30–35 PSI) | 8–10 sec | Hot Peel |
Step 4 – Press Time Guide
Standard press time: 8 seconds at 275°F (135°C)
For thicker fabrics or textured garments, you may increase pressure slightly while keeping the same temperature and time.
Avoid under-pressing, as it can reduce adhesion strength and wash durability.
Step 5 – Peel the Film
After pressing, allow a few seconds and perform a hot peel.
Remove the film in one smooth, continuous motion without stopping mid-peel.
Step 6 – Final Press (Recommended)
For a smoother finish and improved wash resistance, cover the design with parchment paper or a Teflon sheet and press again for 3–5 seconds.
This step helps fully seal the print into the fabric.
Best Practices
- Always pre-press before application
- Use consistent pressure across the design
- Ensure full contact between heat platen and garment
- Avoid shifting the transfer during pressing
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Incorrect heat settings
- Uneven pressure
- Skipping pre-press
- Peeling too early or too aggressively
- Applying on damp fabric
